Biography As a child, good ol' mom and dad forced her to practise the piano, taking lessons and completing Grade 8, Royal Conservatory of Music. She's also got Grade II Theory papers. Roadgypsy grew up with a strong music background. Her father plays alto and tenor sax, clarinet, and has dappled in various other wind instruments. His 30+ years playing in a Big Band was definitely an influence, prompting Roadgypsy to take music throughout highschool: four years playing oboe, one year sax and one percussion. A stint with the highschool stage band (piano) also gave her the thirst for all things music - even taking on the trumpet. However, stage fright played a debilitating role in Roadgypsy's musical development, delaying public performance well into her adult years. This CD project has been a labour of love for Roadgypsy. It took seven years of saving work tips to record each and every song on the album. It was recorded at Maple Leaf Sound Productions, Elmvale Ontario and mastered at Lacquer Channel Mastering, Toronto. Manufactured at RDR Music, Toronto After living with stage fright for all of her life, a friend convinced her to go check out a local coffee house, where, as she put it, "They have a forgiving audience, so don't worry about being nervous and making mistakes."
Roadgypsy: "So, off I went. For a few weeks I just listened to the performers, each having their 15 minutes of fame, 'til one night, after everyone emptied, I got up on the stage, in the dark, while the staff were cleaning up to close. I played a couple of my compositions. It got their attention, and the next week, I was asked up on the stage. I declined. Again, I waited until after everyone went home, save for a few that decided to hang around. They heard my songs, and convinced me to sign up on the performer's board the following week. And so it went on - more and more people hung around at closing to hear me, and soon I became a regular performer, largely overcoming my stage fright. I love all kinds of music, expecially that which has a Latin flair. One day, I want to have a band with my dad and do Herb Alpert - we always laugh about the title - Steve and the Tijuana Connection. Some of the lyrics to my songs are uploaded - you can purchase my CD directly from RDR Music, in Toronto, by clicking below. Thank you, hope you enjoy."
